Ushihama Pet Clinic
Located in Fussa

As sometimes happens, pet emergencies may occur which our veterinary clinic cannot handle. The closest off-base pet hospital to Yokota is the Ushihama Pet Clinic. It is located straight out the Supply Gate (crossing over Route 16) on the left-hand side before the traffic light and railroad tracks. (If the gate is closed, exit left out Fussa Gate, then right at the Supply Gate across from the Toyota dealer.) Parking, though limited, is available next to the clinic under an awning and also across the railroad tracks in a narrow lot on the left-hand side of the same street.

Open 9AM-11PM every day for Japanese speakers (including holidays), an English and Spanish speaker is available to help by appointment 9AM-5PM Mondays, Tuesdays/Thursdays, and Saturdays/Sundays for an additional charge of 700 yen language assistance. The clinic costs are reasonable compared to stateside vets and the staff of 14 veterinary doctors compassionate. While the facilities may be smaller, the wait is not too long and the clinic is equipped with x-ray, ultrasound, and other diagnostic machines to treat the nearly 100 pet-patients per day. The clinic understands emergencies happen at other times and the vets will help persistent pet parents who bring dictionaries to ease the language barrier. However, please do call in advance. If hospitalization is necessary, a deposit is required.

You may know our veterinary clinic only opens its books for the following month's surgical appointments on a specific day (the 15th?) of the month. Even if you call later that morning, you may be out of luck. If you adopted a kitten or puppy and have been waitlisted for spaying and neutering, consider taking your pet off- base. Ushihama charges from 23,000 yen to spay a cat and from 16,000 yen to castrate a dog weighing under 5kgs (10lbs). Ushihama also treats other species such as rabbits, ferrets, birds, and turtles, etc.

While in Japanese, refer to ushihama.com for more information; call 042-553-0046 for appointments after 9AM.

Note: depending on the circumstances, there are also other off-base veterinary clinics used by Yokotans.
